Nothing in Return

In this part of the world we have a culture of showing respect especially to our elders and seniors. This is quite good but can be leaden with some kind of deception.

Respect accorded to you by your peers is usually directly proportional to what someone can get from you or value (perceived) they hope to get from you (in return for nothing sometimes), some even extend this mantra to everyone both young and old.

I really don’t have a problem with this but I am usually somewhat not comfortable when this is the core purpose of networking, trying to do something for someone, acting nice to people with the immediate aim of getting something in return.

I believe genuinely being there for someone, listening to them (not in order to reply), helping and giving most especially to the poor or people you consider you are in a better place than, hoping for nothing in return is the most best way to network with people. I know this might sound tough or strange to some people but this pay’s the best dividend when it is time to reap.
